The cylinder in the video is from the trial batch mixes performed for the Freedom Tower structure in New York City. It is a truciary blend of Type I cement, Class F flyash & Micro Silica Fume. The aggregates are a natural sand & a blend of #67 & #89 granite. The mix also contains a Polycarboxylate High Range Type F & an Type D retarder. The compressive strength test was actually performed with a 70 durometer neoprene pad cap (who says they can't handle the pressure! ) I captured the still picture with a remotely controlled camera set at 8 frames per second. It took 8 cylinders & approximately 60 pictures to capture the cylinder at the moment of rupture.

Field testing of mortar is typically included in project specifications to measure quality control of the project. Typical project specifications reference ASTM C 780 and C 270 when testing mortar.
